According to the son which I
bought the reel from, his father Hörnbäck worked as a reporter on the local
newspaper in Karlshamn.
The newspapers name was
“Karlshamns Allehanda” and Hörnbäck worked there 1963-1975. In those days he
wrote many fishing reports from ABU in Svängsta.
He then became friend with
ABU director, Göte Borgström and got the reel as a gift. He also got some
other reels during the years. Hörnbäck wrote many of his reports when
important and famous persons visited ABU, visitors like President Kekkonen
from Finland,
the Swedish king etc. Hörnbäck was one of few, who were allowed to write
those articles
I have myself tried to locate some of Hörnbäcks
reports, but failed. The son left all reports to the ABU museum in Svängsta,
but unfortunately they where not able to show me them when I visited the
museum during my vacation this year.
It won’t be easy to get in touch with Hörnbäcks
son. He is old and lives in Karlshamn and all the information his father
left him, he gave to the museum.
Of course You can use my text and images to Your
website. I would really like for more people to see the reel and to hear its
story. I think this reel is the only one. ABU did never sell any reel of
this kind. Personally I call the reel "The Reporter Reel". The box is also
one of a kind. It has the symbol of “ HM Konungens Hovleverantör”, The
Swedish Royal Coat of Arms. No other box has this mark.
