Fishing in Australia
Solvol Advertizing " The Life and Habits of Australian Fishes"
by Gilbert p Whitley and illustrated by Mary E. Soady
Published in Australia in the late forties,
this beautiful book which I recently bought is out of print and is shared
here in an educational sense as I cannot find means to communicate with
these creators. Because it was written and illustrated so long ago, I
suspect both responsible have died. Their lovely work deserves to be shared.
No mention is made of ABU in this booklet
but it certainly helps build the image and feeling for our passionate
embrace of fishing as a recreation, hobby or sport at the end of the 40's.
I understand the booklet was never sold ,
rather given away as a promotion by Solvol which as we Aussies all know is
the best abrasive soap for cleaning dirty hands, especially those harbouring
smells of a fishy nature! I still use the product today and I suggest no
laundry tub is complete without a cake of Solvol.
If I have created a copyright issue please
inform me and I will remove these
images promoting the book , if they cause offense.
