Record and ABU Catalogues

While the original Swedish first sales
advice re ABU products appeared from 1941, the first able to be read by rest of the English speaking
world was the
1946 Rely on Record 1954 Record Fishing Tackle
,
followed by the official English language Tight Lines Catalogs for nearly
the next 50 years.
1956 ABU Tight Lines, kindly
shared here by Mike Elsworth of Wales UK
1957 ABU Tight Lines.
Tight Lines ....1958 Would love to have some kind sharing person
scan this catalog for me to share here.
1959 ABU Tight Lines
1960 ABU Tight Lines
1961 ABU Tight Lines
Some fine examples of the Swedish ABU Tackle Catalogues from the start in 1948 are
wonderful to read and imagine flicking through the pages and making tackle
decisions of the year. I own many but friend
Mikael Risberg
has kindly let me use his previously
scanned Napp och Nytt front covers to save me
many hours work!
I own about 40 copies
of the English Tight Lines and 58 Swedish Napp och Nytt
catalogues and have some in double and would love to swap them for
years I am missing N&N 48, 49,
50, 51, (particularly in need of scan of
these afore mentioned Tight Lines 58, ). Would
love some from other countries too!
I am intrigued at knowing the full extent of ABU's global domination of
the fishing world brought about by the production and distribution of their
free catalogues. English, Irish Swedish, German, Netherlands, Danish, Norwegian,
Finnish, French, Spanish, Italian,
Polish and Russian are some I have heard of.
I would love to secure a copy of these
highlighted in red to share here. Perhaps there are more?
Friend Bo
from Denmark tells me...

Denmark
The correct name of the
Danish issues of Napp och Nytt is "Nap og Nyt". The Swedish and the
Danish languages are rather similar to each other (in many ways). The
Danish Nap og Nyt were released I think from 1961 and onwards. I have a
Swedish Napp o Nytt from 1960 with Swedish text inside it but prices are
in Danish kroner (DKK), so it seems likely that the Danish issues were
commenced in 1961, but I don't know for sure. I will have to consult my
N&N collection to be sure, so don't take the mentioned years 100% for
granted - they could differ a year or so.
I bought some different
country issues of the 1982 (or 83?) N&N's last year. They came in both
Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish, German, English and in two other
language, cause I remember there was 8 different languages. Will check
up on this when I find them and let you know what countries they were
from. I know they were made in Russian too - I've seen a few of them,
and they are rather thin due to only a limited number of items in them.
Don't remember what they were called in Russian.
The German issues are called
"PETRI HEIL". Haven't checked up on from when they were made. Try asking
at the Swedish collectors club "SK-Rullen", they should know. They come
in French and in Italian and/or Spanish too if I recall correctly, but I
don't remember what they are called.

The story will unfold, as
friends continue to supply information, (some dates would be great!)
Are there still more?
Friend Christian, ex-patriot
Swede living in Austria, has sent me this collection of German language
ABU catalogues.

Just want to
tell about the Norwegian Napp og Nytt catalogues. The first
Norwegian catalog came out in 1957.But the front page on the
1957 and 59 catalogs was with Swedish text at the frontpage,
inside it was Norwegian text. The 58 catalog was with
Norwegian text at the front and inside the catalog.
STRANGE! WHY I WONDER?
From
1960 and today there is all in Norwegian. The catalogs on
the picture are Norwegian catalogs with swedish text at the
frontpage.I don't have the catalog from 58 in Norwegian
text.
Bye again,
Mvh Trond

Enjoy these English French and German variations of 1956 ABU
Catalogs and 1955 Rely on Record Special catalogs marketed in England
and Spain.

Breaking news here (for
me anyway) and hopefully lots of our ABU fans!

Did
you know a German or Austrian company by the name of Kossler actually
produced a high quality fishing catalog in 70's and 80's which featured
(independent from the Swedish catalogs) their own formatted
advertizements for our beloved ABU products?
Look for high quality scans of relevant pages from 1978 issue here, soon
as time permits.
