Collecting/Cleaning/Preserving ABU Lures/Baits

Tomba will outline here some  of his observations.

Hi! hope you enjoy the pictures.

some info about the pics. first the old boxes marked just p.. can anyone please give me an explanation!

I notice some differences in colour and layout on first and second boxes. The fisherman has at least three different colours of his shirt. The nightbox (11 window in this case) has more clowds, dark cellar windows and darker water. guess it is variations in the printing process, but it doesn't explain the different artwork. Clouds are bigger, in a different shape and the river takes a different bend on the nightbox..  Also the fish baskets are smaller and some other small differences. fun with these variations though :)

Abu-draget in s/v. not the hardest of lures and not in the best condition, but a nice lure :)

Some boxes, really like my optic-fly boxes (second row from left fift and sixth box). all boxes with a little more red on the shortside are red-end boxes, and i got plenty more of those. so they are really common.

Next up is the ABU Spirellen unopened on card. a rare finding! really nice to have in my collection.

Some hazards, three of them absolutely mint in box. the two plastic boxes are both red-end boxes, so they ought be pre 1965 at least?

Tommy-lures with one silver 18gr in really good condition. the Lill-Tommy in z has the stripes to the opposite directions on abu and record lures.. at least those i have?

Some of my fourties-early fifties ABU lures. Have more nice lures on the way! the pendeldraget is one i am not certain of. It may be pre-abu/record if have gotten it right? Called the Dolfin. Don't know if ABU bought the rights to produce the lure or how the story goes. The eyes look strange anyway, and i have heard that there are and were other companies producing that same lure before and after abu.. anyone's opinion? fake or not?

Högbom spinners. Maybe one of the nicest looking lures ever made by abu? i love them. notice variations in colour and scaling on the two blue ones. another fun variation on same lure and colour.

The four Lill öringen in z has opposite stripes. 2 to the right and two to the left. Same as with the tommys.

Also one with red-end box with green-bluish inserts and the "catch the big one" typing. Also printed the number 116.

Some Ninnettes. have seen pretty many with feathered hooks. Maybe they came with those? the k-coloured box has a fun misprint with half of the letters on the bottomside of the red end box.. all three boxes are red-end ones.

Last one up is the Amulette on wrong spoon. noticed it just today when i found out that i really haven't got any nice examples of the Amulette. but i guess i was wrong :) its typed on the wrong spoon and at opposite direction to the common ones (at least the six ones i have). Its only half scaled, and that's really strange. The spoon used is plankton 7gr spoons. I match them and they were exactly the same size. the plankton spoon is slight longer, wider and has a slightly more pointy nose. see it with one Amulette and one plankton side by side and you understand :). I guess a mix-up at the factory could explain the spoons, but the scaling is odd. some employee having fun again? :)

Well, this is what i had time with so far. Gonna take a look at what i might find some day soon.. Have noticed variations in many lures. f.i the little-lu record and abu lures. they are very much alike in shape and size when you compare and some other lures have the same syndrome. The hazard is one strange lure too. The two coloured ones are strange. i first thought that someone had polished them and then sold them on the Swedish auction site. The little bend on the top (on the front side) is in silver and the front in copper or gold. l

Looked just like they had been polished off the silver colour, but then I realized that they came that way. I had them in my "aby trash-lure" box for a while, but now they are back up again, haha! dont know if you understood a word about the hazards, but see for yourself and you´ll understand.

hmm? i guess that's all for now.

later! tomba!

I am still looking for items in any condition , whether loose, carded or boxed:   such as Kelly, Doublespinnaren, Svangsta spinnaren, Toby, Hogbom, Whirler or Virveln, Tilly, Safir, Sally,  ABU Spoon, Joker, Glimmy, Atom, Tommy, Hazard or Mac Dan in any size or colour (or other metal lures) are needed to continue studies as well as the plastics such as Killer, Hi-Lo (Heddon ABU Hi-Lo River Runt Spook, any colour other than RH , I need XBW, XRY, L and D for my collection. The Kynoch in T or the rakan in black are still to be found to record. Full recognition for any assistance offered  will be provided on this site. My name and website is well known to many ABU reel collectors in USA, but unfortunately I do not know too many ABU lure collectors there. Looking  forward to getting to know more and perhaps trade some doubles of lures too!

If you have any other lures, that are un-needed or doubles in your collection and are available for swapping or a reasonable fee, I would be very pleased to hear from you.
